Bradford Bikery welcomes volunteers who wish to gain skills in refurbishing bikes, working in a team and supporting members of the public to fix their own bikes. We welcome both people who would like to volunteer in their spare time as well and those who are seeking a structured volunteering placement.
As a volunteer, you will be offered training in bike mechanics leading to a qualification from Cycling UK, the national cycling charity. We can also provide travel expenses and lunch.
Here are our current volunteering opportunities:
Bike Recycling – Every Wednesday & Thursday 11am – 3pm
Our bike recycling scheme aims to provide affordable second hand bikes for sale. Come along to our weekly sessions to get involved in stripping down and building up bikes as a Bike Refurbishment Volunteer (Click here to download role profile). It doesn’t matter if you’ve never held a spanner before, we will guide you through all aspects of bike mechanics until you’re totally confident. We also need handy people who are keen to join us as Workshop Team Volunteers (Click here to download a role profile). This role is about helping the project to develop and manage a space which is well designed and fit for purpose as a bicycle workshop.
Public drop-in sessions – Every Wednesday 4-8pm
If you already have some experience of bike mechanics, you would be very welcome to join us as an Assistant Mechanic Volunteer (Click here to download role profile.). You can help us assist members of the public with maintenance of their bicycles during the Bikery’s drop in workshop hours and at events. We are also looking for people to become involved more broadly in making the drop-in sessions a success! See our post about this.
How to get involved
If you are interested in volunteering, simply contact us to register your interest or visit the workshop on a Wednesday between 10:30 – 11:30am where we will be available to answer any questions you may have.
In addition to people approaching us directly with an interest in volunteering, people are also referred to us by various local organisations for volunteering placements. These volunteer placements are funded by the Triangle Trust.
